WHAT IS IT?

A project that aims to make the most of existing resources without polluting our environment and carried out with Gureak, Belda Llorens, the Department of the Environment of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and Ihobe - Basque Government - European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Selecting, recycling, and transforming old sheets into a technical thread to weave our garments.

WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

Our laundries take thousands of tonnes of textile waste to dumps every year from garments that are torn or too damaged to meet customer specifications. The set-aside garments are mostly made of cotton, a high-value material with great recyclability, which, however, is currently not being put to good use. This waste contributes to polluting our planet and fuels the production of new resources that exploit natural raw materials.

HOW WE DO IT?

Our venture with Gureak, Belda Llorens, the Department of the Environment of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, and Ihobe - Basque Government - European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) gives us the strength to provide a solution to the major problem of post-consumer textile waste. So, we carefully select the best pieces of leftover fabric from Gureak’s laundries and turn them into new garments. The selected sheets are sent to the BELDA LLORENS factory, where they are shredded by mechanical recycling and later converted into fibre. The raw fibre obtained is spun back into bobbins for reuse to produce other garments. In Ternua, we create sustainable and resistant garments from this recycled cotton and organic cotton.

THE RESULT

A collection created from a unique and eco-innovative project that encourages the circular economy. Garments and accessories are redeemed from old sheets to create a unique, original, and environmentally responsible collection. A commitment to sustainable progress, to move forward without destroying, to take advantage of existing resources without polluting our environment; giving a second life to textile waste and a second chance for the Planet.
